General Rules for Year-End Awards

  • Unless otherwise specified, all awards will be considered BREED awards and given to the OWNER of the winning pony.

  • In order for any PONY to be considered for a NEWPCS year-end breed award, the pony must be registered with the WPCSA or WPCSC. In addition the owner of the pony must be a current member of NEWPCS. The owner of the pony will be considered to be the last name listed on the registration papers or as listed on lease papers. (Note: for the purposes of NEWPCS awards, leases do not have to be registered with the national society).

  • In order for any PONY to be considered for a NEWPCS year-end breed award, the pony must have entered and shown at the NEWPCS Annual Breed Show. (This requirement will be waived for pony owners who provide sponsorship to the show in an amount of at least $35.00).

  • In order for a RIDER to be considered for a NEWPCS year-end rider award, that rider must be a current member of NEWPCS (Individual, Farm, or Family) and must ride a pony registered with the WPCSA or the WPCSC that has registration papers on file with NEWPCS and is owned by a current NEWPCS member.

  • In order for a RIDER to be considered for a NEWPCS year-end rider award, that rider must have entered and competed at the NEWPCS Annual Breed Show. (This requirement will be waived for riders who provide sponsorship to the show in an amount of at least $35.00).

  • It is the responsibility of the owners and riders to make certain that all paperwork is in order and on file, all memberships current.

  • Points will accrue only after membership dues are paid and registration papers are on file with NEWPCS.
Any updates to a pony’s papers (pony is leased, sold, etc.) should be sent to NEWPCS as soon as possible to avoid any confusion with points.

  • Points should be submitted within two weeks of the show to the points secretary.

HIGH-POINT RIDER AWARD Rules

  • All pertinent general rules shall apply.
Awards will be presented in three age categories: 11 and under, 12-17, and Adult.
A rider’s age is as of January 1 of the current year.
Rider must send in membership to NEWPCS before the first show.
Rider must ride a NEWPCS member-owned, registered Welsh pony/cob in any class (equitation classes included) at any two or more horse shows between the date of joining NEWPCS and November 21 of the current year. Because the awards are for the rider, a rider may compete on more than one pony/cob.
The registration papers for the pony being ridden must be on file with NEWPCS before the first show (or submit with first points’ submission)

GORDON HEARD Versatility Award

Established in 1995, this award is given to the pony or cob who has accrued the most points in 3 or more different areas--must include Welsh Sanctioned In-Hand, Welsh Performance, and at least one Open Performance area.
All pertinent general rules shall apply. Since this is an award for the pony, different riders/handlers/drivers may compete on the pony.

*GERRIG QUEST Ridden Dressage Award *****New for 2009!

This award will be given to the pony or cob with the highest average percentage score for the year in the discipline of Ridden Dressage. - Donated by Patty Montana

  • All pertinent general rules shall apply

  • Since this is an award for the pony, different riders may compete on the pony.

  • Scores from any dressage show (Schooling show or USDF/USEF Sanctioned) will count toward the overall average any level, Training Level through Grand Prix.

  • Overall average percentage will be tabulated from all scores submitted per level. Ponies may submit scores from more than one level, but they will be tabulated separately.

  • Submissions for this award should be made on the *Gerrig Quest award form.

Youth Achievement

You must first comply with all the New England Welsh Pony & Cob Society Year End rules. If you would like to be included, or considered for this award, you must circle YES on the points rules, or a member can submit your name as a nominee for consideration. You must be an active Junior member who in some way helps, or supports the Society in its activities. It is NOT based on riding, or showing, but rather on helpfulness, sportsmanship, and general enthusiasm at NEWPCS events.
